Ghana Chiefs Offer Free Land

There is an area in Ghana that is offering free land to descendants of enslaved africans of the atlantic slave trade. From what I gather is that they want people to actually build in the area and become part of the local community. Unlike in the usa and other countries, where you buy land, in Ghana it is for a 99 year lease on the land rather than a straight buy and from my understanding when you want to transfer the land to your children they will have to pay some type of fee to establish their own 99 year lease for the land. I think more local chiefs and/or states in African are going to take action about welcoming home descendants of enslaved africans by offering land, rather than waiting on their country's goverment to come up with some type of plan. I am going to link to two you tube videos: one is from a Ghana based you tube channel and the other is from black american that is in Ghana.

    1. Hello, I am very interested in purchasing land in Ghana. I live in the U.S. and wanted to know how to get started. I hope to hear from you soon!
  • Thank you for posting this brother Chris. Much respect to Ghana and their politicians as well as the village leaders. You could complain that these things aren't happening fast enough or that the year of return was just a desperate ploy to increase tourism but they seem to be the only country that gives a damn about their family in the diaspora. I recently saw the Ghanian ambassador on Roland Martin's show talking about how the President would prefer to do business with African Americans rather than non-blacks. (I will post a link for anyone interested) Ghana isn't my first or second choice for relocation but there is something to be said for going somewhere you know you are wanted. I'm not trying to denegrate any countries that have gone through horrible conflicts in recent decades (Liberia, Sierra Leone, Mali, etc) but damn!! Is anyone else gonna step the fuck up?!! Some of us want to come home and contribute.

    • I feel you and if people just want to live in Africa and not care about actually being able to build wealth through land ownership and property than Ghana is perfect.Yes go home and be very happy.
